Head/helmet mounted displays (HMDs) are used for simulation & training, medical research, psychological therapy and entertainment to immerse the user in a virtual environment. In order to provide a realistic 360 degree immersive experience, the HMD must be tracked with fast update rates, low latency with no jitter. InterSense’s patented inertial head tracking technology is designed specifically to provide the superior performance necessary to meet these requirements.
Inertial sensors are widely recognized as the technology of choice for HMD applications as they inherently provide fast update rates and immediate feedback. Low latency is a key factor in providing a successful immersive experience as a delay between the user's movements and the update of the display can cause motion sickness.
InterSense pioneered and patented the solution to address this problem. Our inertial tracking technology senses your head movements, and our sensor fusion software, which includes motion prediction and perceptual enhancement, is able to predict where you intend to look and adjust the virtual display accordingly. The result is a seamless, real-time immersive experience for the user.
Our HMD partners use InertiaCube sensors to provide orientation tracking while our IS-900 systems offer full position and orientation tracking solutions from small to wide area applications. All InterSense products can be embedded into the HMD for an integrated solution.
