VCam™

The InterSense VCam™ Tracking System is a virtual camera that provides the director with real-time control to scout, plan, visualize and finalize the creation of shots. These tasks are traditionally accomplished by an iterative offline process between the director and CG artists. The VCam allows the director to realize their creative vision in real-time, saving hours of valuable production time while producing an organic, life-like camera move for the shot.

In any virtual scene or environment, the VCam controls the path, angle and field of view of the virtual camera in a natural and intuitive manner. The director can now plan & set the final shots combining animated or motion captured characters with the 3D scene.

The VCam System is based on the patented, field proven IS-900 motion tracking system, which combines hybrid inertial-ultrasonic sensors to provide natural & precise 6-DOF measurements. The IS-900 tracking sensor is integrated directly into the VCam body along with a 3-axis joystick that controls translation, rotation and scaling of the virtual environment. The camera controls are mapped to functions in the virtual production software to control zoom, play, record, jog, scrub and other features. With these controls, the VCam operator can easily control set-up and recording of realistic virtual shots.

VCam systems come with plug-in software for Autodesk MotionBuilder. Native support of the VCam technology is built into NewTek's LightWave10 animation software.
