Hybrid Technology
Precision orientation and tracking over a wide range is nearly impossible with any single technology, because every technology has limitations. For example, magnetic and radio frequency sensors are subject to metallic interference, and optical sensors are highly accurate but easily obstructed.
That's why InterSense has developed a Hybrid Technology that utilizes various sensing approaches, all integrated with our patented SensorFusion software.
The core of our technology is the InertiaCube inertial sensor, which can track motion without any external reference source. The InertiaCube is built using miniaturized MEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems) gyroscopes, accelerometers and magnetometers. InterSense continually improves this core technology by selecting the most advanced MEMS devices with each new product offering. InterSense was the first company to successfully develop human motion tracking systems based on inertial sensors, and holds the key patents in this area.
We fuse inertial sensing with complementary tracking sources to fit the needs of specific environments and applications. We use optical, GPS, and magnetic technologies, as well as digital acoustic ranging, a field pioneered by InterSense.
Our SensorFusion software integrates the input from all these sensors and applies predictive algorithms to produce the best possible estimate of an object's motion. The result of this technology "fusion" is a combination of capabilities not available before, such as:
- Unlimited range
- Negligible jitter
- High update rate & low latency
- Excellent immunity to all forms of interference
- Superior motion "smoothness"
- Miniature form factor
- Low cost
- High accuracy
With InterSense motion tracking systems, your can truly “sense every move”.
