InterSense Technology helps bring home major film awards

The Oscar and Golden Globe are awarded to films supported with InterSense Virtual Camera Technology

Although the major red carpet events are over there is still one more opportunity to recognize the best in filmmaking – the 2011 MTV Movie Awards!

Yes, the MTV Movie Awards are nothing like the Oscars or the Golden Globes. . . but judging by the list of nominees, they are another clear indicator that 2010 was an amazing year for animation and special effects -- and InterSense solutions like the IS-900, IS-1200 and VCam technology were a key driver.

So far this year, InterSense-supported movies have been nominated for and won 3 awards, most notably, the Oscar.  Three pictures nominated for Academy Awards ("Alice in Wonderland", "Toy Story 3" and "Iron Man 2") used InterSense technology, and two took home the prize.  Best Animated Feature Film went to “Toy Story 3,” in which Pixar used the IS-900 and VCam technology to plan and create hand-held shot sequences.   Worldwide, this picture has grossed more than $1 billion, the first animated film to ever reach that benchmark.   “Toy Story 3” also won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film.  And, the makers of “Alice in Wonderland” – Oscar winner for Best Art Direction – used the IS-1200 technology combined with the Lightcraft Technology Previzion system to provide real-time, on-set visualization.  InterSense partner, The Third Floor, provided previz for "Iron Man 2" and "Alice in Wonderland" using our VCam technology.

And while the Oscar is clearly Hollywood’s big prize, the MTV Movie Awards are arguably the most fun.  The show, scheduled to air Sunday, June 5 at 9/8c, mixes A-list celebrities, musicians, filmmakers, TV stars with regular viewers like you and me.  In fact, they are the only award show that lets the public decide the nominees.   Between March 22 and April 5, you can vote to help decide which of your favorite movies will move onto the next round.  So far, "Toy Story 3" is up for “Best Villian” (remember Ned Beatty’s master-mind teddy bear?) . . . Iron Man 2 is up for “Best Fight” sequence – twice (Scarlett Johanssen vs. the guard and Robert Downey Jr. vs. Mickey Rourke) . . . and both films are up for Best Movie.

No matter who takes home the coveted “Golden Popcorn,” InterSense is excited to see these movies added to the long list of other award-winners like “Avatar,” “Monsters, Inc.,” and “Polar Express,” which were created with the help of our technology.   Our goal is keep helping the best creative minds realize their vision through the use of virtual cameras and production – stay tuned for the next chapter!
